Who We Are

When we use the term “Friends” or “we,” “us” or “our”, we mean to refer collectively to the Friends of the Global Fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Site may link to third party websites or services not owned or controlled by Friends. Please note that this Privacy Policy does not apply to those third party websites and Friends is not responsible for the data collection practices of any third parties.

The Information We Collect and Use

When we use the term “Personal Information” we mean information that can be used to identify you as an individual person. We collect Personal Information through your use of our Site. We collect and use three categories of information.

    We collect Personal Information when you choose to share that information with us.

    1. When you sign up for our newsletter or to receive information from us, we collect your contact information and communication preferences, which we use to manage how we communicate with you.
    2. When you submit identifiable comments or other content to us, we collect whatever information you supply and use this information to communicate with you if requested, and otherwise fulfill the purpose of the content submission.
    3. If you submit an application for employment with Friends online, we will collect information including your contact details, work history, employment needs and interests, and anything relevant to the job for which you are applying.
  2. Information About Online Donors
    When you click “Donate Now” on the Site, you are redirected to an independent third party to process the donation. That third party collects your Personal Information, using its own service providers to complete the transaction, and transmits the donation to us, along with your name, contact information and other relevant details you provided in connection with making the donation. We use this information to account for the donation, communicate with you and interact with you as a donor of Friends.
  3. Information Collected Automatically
    We use various technologies to collect other types of data that do not directly reveal your identity (“Other Information”). If we associate Other Information with Personal Information, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

    1. Logging Functionality: As is true of most websites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include IP addresses, browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp and/or clickstream data. We generally only use this data for purposes such as security, fraud detection, and protecting our rights.

We share your Personal Information with third parties in the ways described in this Privacy Policy.

Service Providers: We share your Personal Information with third party service providers who perform services on our behalf or for your benefit, such as web hosting.

Other Non-Governmental Organizations: We also may share your information with other non-profits that are either affiliated with us, or that we think you may have an interest in hearing from.

Legal Process, Safety and Terms Enforcement: We may disclose your Personal Information to legal or government regulatory authorities in response to their requests for such information or to assist in investigations. Business Transfers: Your Personal Information may be disclosed as part of a corporate business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, joint venture, or financing or sale of company assets, including bankruptcy proceedings, and could be transferred to a third party as one of the business assets in such a transaction. We want to communicate with you only if you want to hear from us. If you wish to opt out of receiving our email newsletters or communications from us, you may do so at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email you receive from us and following the instructions on the screen.

Accessing and Updating Your Information

You may contact us to request that your Personal Information be updated by using the contact information below. You may request a copy of the information which we hold about you (for which we may charge you a small fee for large or complex requests). In addition, if you would like to access, verify, correct, update or delete your e-mail address, mailing address or other Personal Information with us please contact us directly.

We will retain your Personal Information for as long as is reasonably useful for commercial purposes. We will retain and use your Personal Information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations or data retention policies, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

Changes to this Policy

This Privacy Policy is subject to occasional revision, and if we make any material changes in the way we use your Personal Information, we will notify you by prominently posting notice of the changes on the Site and updating the effective date above.

Any changes to this Privacy Policy will be effective upon thirty (30) calendar days following our posting of notice of the changes on the Site. These changes will be effective immediately for new users of our Site.

If you do not wish to permit changes in our use of your Personal Information, you must notify us prior to the effective date of the changes so we can delete your Personal Information. Continued use of our Site, following notice of such changes shall indicate your acknowledgement of such changes and agreement to be bound by the terms and conditions of such changes.
