Tuberculosis Cases Continue to Rise According to New WHO Report
A new WHO report found that COVID-19 disrupted progress fighting TB in 2021, continuing a global trend seen in 2020. If these trends hold, TB is on track to surpass COVID-19 as the world's deadliest infectious disease according to reporting from the Economist. Below are highlights from the WHO's latest report on the state of the global fight against TB:
In 2021,10.6 million people fell ill with TB, an increase of 4.5% from 2020.
In 2021,1.6 million people died from TB which includes 187,000 deaths among HIV-positive people.
