Friends of the Global Fight released the following statement in memory of Dr. Paul Farmer:
“Paul Farmer shook the foundations of global health. He insisted on quality health care for all people, including the poor, and rejected the notion that resources are too scarce to provide good care for everyone. He worked in partnership with people, and he celebrated people who were leading and advocating in their own communities, all over the world. He fought for well supported, human rights-based health systems and consistently reminded us of the structural factors undermining access to care, including racism and the legacies of colonialism. His inspiration will continue to drive us toward equity. Dr. Farmer will be greatly missed but he leaves the world a changed place. “
