Days before her wedding day, Maya found out she was HIV positive. Maya feared being ostracized by her family if she told them about her diagnosis, so she kept her status a secret.

Stigma and discrimination are a reality that Maya faces nearly every day in her community in Indonesia. Her HIV status also makes her vulnerable to other infectious diseases like tuberculosis (TB). Weeks after finding out about her HIV status, Maya faced more grave news– she had been diagnosed with MDR-TB, an especially dangerous form of TB that many people living with HIV can contract due to their weakened immune systems.
