Friends’ Statement on the America First Global Health Strategy

“Friends welcomes the America First Global Health Strategy’s commitment to pursuing ambitious goals for tackling HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria, as well as its emphasis on program efficiency and outcomes, and support for increasing partner country leadership,” said Chris Collins, Friends’ President and CEO. “The Strategy calls for monitoring epidemic control by geography and major demographic categories, and this will be essential to maintaining our gains against HIV, TB and malaria and leaving no one behind. We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to secure the funding needed to match these ambitions.”

“We are pleased to see the Global Fund included as a key partner in U.S. global health leadership, as was discussed at the recent State Department announcement of the U.S.-Global Fund partnership on long-acting HIV prevention delivery,” Collins said. “The Global Fund is uniquely positioned to help advance U.S. global health goals as its policies drive increased partner country co-investment, affordable commodities and strengthening of core health system functions. The Global Fund also works closely with faith-based and private sector actors and, as the Strategy notes, has procured more than $3.5 billion in goods and services from U.S. corporations since 2010.”
