Friends welcomes Global Fund support in fiscal year 2026 appropriations legislation

Washington, DC – Yesterday the House and Senate posted the fiscal year 2026 National Security, Department of State and Related Programs bill, providing $1.25 billion for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), sufficient funding to meet the first year of the U.S. pledge toward the Global Fund’s eighth replenishment if supplemented by available previous appropriations.

“We thank Senator Graham, Senator Schatz, Rep. Diaz-Balart and Rep. Frankel for their strong and sustained leadership on global health,” said Friends President and CEO Chris Collins. “This bill shows that the Global Fund continues to enjoy broad bipartisan support and is widely recognized as a vital partner to the U.S. in achieving AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria targets in the America First Global Health Strategy.”

“Friends also welcomes the report language accompanying the bill directing the use of previously appropriated funds to meet the United States’ seventh replenishment commitment to the Global Fund,” Collins added. “We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to ensure these resources are fully deployed to maximize impact.”

“U.S. leadership in the Global Fund partnership over the last 20 years has led to remarkable results, saving over 70 million lives,” said Dr. Jeffrey L. Sturchio, Friends’ board chair and past chairman and CEO of Rabin Martin, a global health impact consultancy. “We ask Congress to approve the legislation in the coming days.”
