Issue brief: Promising practices in advocacy for domestic health spending

Promising practices in advocacy for domestic health spending

As countries continue to transition away from donor funding for health programs, our new issue brief examines how civil society organizations (CSOs) are advocating for increased domestic health spending while ensuring that communities have a voice in decisions.

What various strategies and methods have worked for effective advocacy in low- and middle-income countries?

Co-published by Friends of the Global Fight, Lean on Me Foundation (Kenya), Spiritia Foundation (Indonesia) and Faith Leader Advocacy for Malaria Elimination (Zambia), the brief draws on case studies and peer learning to identify promising practices that civil society can leverage to strengthen domestic resources, including:

  • Embedding advocacy in broader civil society networks to amplify reach and impact
  • Extending advocacy to sub-national levels of government where health decisions are increasingly made
  • Fostering South-South collaboration so CSOs can share tactics and build durable international solidarity networks
