Katie Broendel is the Senior Communications Manager at Friends of the Global Fight. In her role, she manages media relations for the organization, and collaborates with the communications team on strategy, outreach and writing.
Prior to joining Friends, Katie worked as the media and public relations manager for the American Association of University Women. She has worked for several organizations in Washington, D.C., including the National Geographic Society, Amnesty International and AllAfrica.com.
She earned her M.A. in Public Communication from the American University School of Communication, where she also serves as an adjunct instructor. She won Best Academic Paper in Public Communication in 2009, and her graduate thesis focused on the framing of sexual violence in the media.
Katie also has a background in geography, having earned her B.A. from the University of Mary Washington.
